Holy Spirit Security and the Godhead
An important work of the Spirit of
God clearly is to protect God’s people. Christians
are protected by the power of God and identified as His because He put His
Spirit on them as a seal. This security
is a great source of assurance for Christians.
Those who live with such security and assurance, quite understandably
experience boldness, joy, and peace as a result the Spirit is also a deposit,
or down payment. A deposit is simply the
first payment. The remainder will come
later. The Gift of the Spirit is God’s
first payment to His people. The
remainder of His blessings will be given later in the life to come. This Spirit’s presence with us is a foretaste
of the life to come.
Humanity Restored
God will redeem or fully restore
believers in Christ so we perfectly conform to His will. Until then, the Spirit in our lives
guarantees we will be redeemed. The
Church, the saints love “does” more than it “feels.” God’s people love one another. Others come to know about this love through
the deeds of love we do for each other.
Such loving action brings joy and thanksgiving to God’s people. Saints are holy ones because Christ’s love
impels us to action.
Prayer and Intercession
Intercession reaches its highest
authority and power when it is for spiritual purposes. Paul prayed the Ephesians would know God
better and experience His strength. Paul’s
deep concern for his churches is shown by his frequent prayers for them.
The Godhead Defined
The Godhead works like a street
signal. If one light doesn’t work, then
the whole signal is not functioning the way it was designed to work. Jesus
is the Godhead. God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit demonstrates the unique
relationship of the divine Person who is the Godhead Christ Jesus.
The God of Power
The redeeming grace of God is as
much a disclosure of His power as it is of His love. The same power that brought Jesus from the
dead— Could there be a greater display of power?—is available to the believer
in Christ, both in time and in eternity.
What God does in transforming human lives in this world and what He does
in giving them eternal life in the next world are both examples of His mighty
power.
Jesus Christ’s Ascension
Jesus’ resurrection and ascension revealed
God’s unsurpassed power and established Jesus as supreme ruler over all
heavenly and earthly powers for eternity.
To this end, Jesus’ authority in the Godhead can be summarized:
· Jesus — Last Things; Age to Come
· Jesus — The Church; Body of Christ
· Jesus — Heavenlies and all it’s Fullness
· Jesus — Over all Souls and the Flesh
· Jesus — Over all spirits, both Living and Dead.
