From a Carnal Mind to Spiritual Mind: Part One
A lot of folks want to have a spiritual life or spiritual
mind working for them. However, an unseen obstacle with this is that in the beginning
of our spiritual walk, we still have a carnal mind. This old mind is to be abandoned
before the walk of faith can begin. We
rely too much on ordinances such as water baptism, and a few spoken confessions
to totally renew their minds. Hence being
a lot of truth to the saying, “The Word of God” is profitable and quick rebuke
has its place.
A carnal mind must have some element in it to start with
of knowing the difference between right and wrong along with knowing the
difference between good and evil. This must be measured the time must be taken.
This brings in the need for small groups--to find out where people stand
carnally. Without this yardstick, you will down the road appoint people as your
leaders and even pastors promoting them strait up the line of spiritual
authority.
Therefore, recognition of the truth of God’s revelation is
an intellectual element. The objective reality of the salvation provided by Christ
that a new believer have just walked into. This includes not only a historical
belief in the facts of the Scriptures, but an intellectual belief in the
doctrine taught. That doctrine must have in it a clear moral stand. A clear
moral stand that is not massaged to open up to accommodate this new cultural moral
decline is needed today. The church must remember that Jesus Christ is the Head
of the Church and not man.
Also, an intellectual belief in the doctrine taught
therein as to man’s sinfulness and dependence upon Christ should be examined. Demanding legal, policy issues that are disguised
as tenants of piety are no less than crafty ways of turning the church into a pseudo-militant
state. In cases such as these, this is when the doctrine becomes the head of
the church, with man changing the entire meaning for Christian assembly suit
his own needs.
A humanistic theology closes the door to apologists that
would share revelation from the Holy Spirit on topics as they arise. Humanism in the church seeks after the element
that is to be seen as loyal not matter what. It demands that congregates offer devotion
goes without question, while leaders receive without giving anything at all. This
mentality in a humanistic leader strips the heart of love and compassion, which
negates the foundation of faith, which is love. Leaders lacking true fellowship
with God have nothing abiding in them to build on. They just either create or
wait for the next event to share empty words with no meat.
In the surrender of the soul to Christ’s governance, we
have the guarantee that salvation is not an immoral
truth which permits
continuance in sin or as otherwise being taught as the “grace theology”. Aside
from the fact that saving faith this only obverse side of true repentance, the
very nature of faith pivots on total submission to Christ. This unrestrained
position with our Savior embodies the Law of God and it is the source of
spiritual life. With this understanding, we sojourn in a life of obedience and
virtue which is a natural and necessary result of discipleship with Jesus.
I will share more about the evidences of a true spiritual
walk with our Lord in part two.
In Him,
Pastor Norman
